P. William "Bill"  Ainley
Ainley, P. William “Bill”, P. Eng., MICE, FCSCE
Died peacefully on Sunday January 21, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 89. Bill of Stayner, Ontario beloved husband of Trudy for over 67 years. Loving father of Simon (Sharon Hanna), Mike (Karen Bloore), Sue (Geoff Meadley), the late Jonathan (daughters Rachel & Rebecca), Terresa and Gloria. Cherished grandfather of Sean, Alexandra, Nicholas, Travis and great grandfather of Samuel, Annabelle and Adriana. Bill also is survived by siblings Wendy Jowett and Roger Ainley and will be missed by his family and friends in the United Kingdom and abroad. Bill began his engineering career in Yorkshire, England. In 1958 he set course for Canada accompanied by his wife Trudy and, in 1961, founded Ainley Group, where he remained active until just recently. In 1982 Bill served as President (Chair) of the Consulting Engineers of Ontario and in 2003 received the ACEC’s highest recognition, the Beaubien Award for his professional contribution to engineering in Canada. Bill also was the recipient of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal. In 1987, he committed himself to third world development joining with HOPE International Development Agency in the delivery of clean water to peoples in Africa and Asia. His contribution to HOPE and the cause of providing clean water to underserved rural areas took him around the world to Ethiopia, Cambodia, Pakistan, Lebanon, Indonesia and the Philippines. Bill was a long time minor hockey manager and a committed member of the Anglican Church acting as a Warden in a number of churches. He also involved himself in politics and served as campaign manager for his local MPP. He had a passion for his work and deep love for his family. He will be dearly missed. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Sunday, January 28th, 2018 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 29th, 2018 at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 22 Caroline Street West, Creemore at 3:00 p.m. Reception to follow at Station on the Green, 3 Caroline Street East, Creemore. Spring Interment Creemore Union Cemetery. If desired, donations to Hope International Development Agency, Collingwood General & Marine Hospital Foundation or St. Luke’s Anglican Church would be appreciated by Bill’s family.
