December 6, 1944 – October 31, 2018
Carolyn and I, three months difference in age, grew up on rural Haines Rd. in the Dixie/Cooksville area of Mississauga. She was my girl friend, not Girlfriend, but there was always a soft spot in my heart for her. In our early teens we had our one and only date. It could be said neither had any significant other at the time so we accompanied each other to our Junior High Prom. Obviously dated in the late "50's" by our attire. Among songs of the time: Blue Suade Shoes. Black Slacks and Pink Carnation a prominent one comes to mind," Memories Are Made Of This" by Dean Martin.
We drifted in different directions and in later teen years I would cross paths with George, an interest in cars, hanging out at Dixie Arena and sometimes bombing around orchards in old cars, like a model "A" with the roof cut off. "Archie" style from the comic book with Betty, Veronica and Jughead.
Then one night at our weekly dance spot, St. John's Anglican Church recereation hall, In comes George and my old girl friend Carolyn, and could they dance. In all the years since I have never met or seen them apart. When we did met we always had a laugh. Without fail, when others were present, George always insisted I tell my story of how long Carolyn and I had known each other, going back to the time as kids when I got my butt kicked by my O'l Man after catching me looking down Carolyn's pants while we were "Playing Doctor". Isn't it odd we found ourselves living our retirement in close proximity in Wasaga Beach.
Carolyn, You always occupied a soft spot in my heart, your spirit will live on in my memories.
