We were saddened to hear of Hugh's passing. We have fond memories of Hugh and the family from our days as neighbours on the Rideau River in Manotick. Hugh was a true gentleman, a family man and a terrific neighbour. He loved the water and spent much of his spare time sailing, boating, lifeguarding (both his own and our children) and just soaking in the amazing views. Hugh enjoyed animals and watching the antics of Barkey and Rhiney and he actually put himself in harms way to save Rhiney when she fell through the ice. One vivid memory is of Hugh and Bob dressed so that every inch was covered by at least one layer in preparation to attack a hornet's nest under Hugh's deck. I can't remember if they were successful in getting rid of the hornets but they certainly were successful in providing a lot of laughs for their creative coverups. Hugh had a life well lived and left a wonderful legacy in his 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
