Died peacefully on Friday April 19, 2019 at the General & Marine Hospital, Collingwood at the age of 89. Marie of Stayner, formerly of Sunnidale Corners, beloved wife of Robert (Bob) Bates for over 61 years. Loving mother of Susan (Malcolm Clarke) and David (Lori). Cherished grandmother of Kathryn and Chris Dixon, Maggie Clarke, Jessica and Tyler Brown, Dan and Shauna Bates, Cassie and John Lucas and Rachel Bates. Great grandmother of Callum, Wesley, Cullen, Ila, Gilbert, MaryKate and Ben. She is predeceased by her parents Donald Cottrell and Susannah (nee Bristow) and brothers William, Alec and Ross. Marie was a dedicated member of her community. She was actively involved in her churches, first Nottawa Presbyterian Church and then Zion Presbyterian Church at Sunnidale Corners as a member of the Board of Managers and at Zion as the first woman Elder, as a Sunday school teacher and with the women’s groups. Marie was also a Life Member of the Sunnidale Corners Women’s Institute. Fraternally she was a dedicated member of the Stayner Order of the Eastern Star, serving two terms as Worthy Matron and with Bob as Worthy Patron and was also a member of the Salaam Shrine. Her community involvement also included the Stayner Fair Board. She will be missed. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Tuesday, April 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Zion Presbyterian Church, 12029 County Road 10, Clearview on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at 11 o’clock.
